I have never had a bad trip to this state park. Hikes are never extremely easy if you want to see the beautiful parts, so be sure to pack lots of water and avoid the high noon sun! Camping here in the walk on sites is wonderful as well, with my only complaint being firewood is only for sale with cash only and no atm, so be aware of that if needing to purchase fireword.
One of the best state parks in Texas. It is off the beaten path so bring everything you need because if you don't have it you can't get it. Camping is all primitive and you would be well advised to call ahead for reservations. Booked months ahead even through winter.
Good getaway from Austin. But do not expect any thing spectacular. Eacy trails. But has a really good camping ground by a lake. Try to go early and cover as many trails as possible. You might spot Amarillo
The river is beautiful and great for fishing and the crown jewel is Gorman falls but hit all the trails you can because they all offer something different and wildlife abounds.
Very scenic park. We had the River Group Campsite, which was very beautiful. The park has a lot of trails for hiking and biking and also kayaks to rent. No showers and only compost toilet, which were always clean.
Even if for the day it is a must visit park.
My brother and I went on a primitive camping trip here and had a lot of fun. The park offers a lot of hiking trails, but prepared for some difficult terrain if you hit the trails on your mountain bike like we did! The sights are awesome, would definitely recommend making the hikes to Spicewood Springs and Gorman Falls - they're both worth it! The fishing was pretty good too, especially on kayaks so bring some poles. The park even has kayak rentals if needed. We camped on the river backpacking trail and enjoyed the quiet nights and starry skies.
